Tesla Motors will transfer its development to the public

A few days ago, Elon Musk at a meeting of shareholders spoke about the transfer of corporate patents for public use. At the time, it seemed to be patents that affected only minor parts of an electric car. However, in a blog post, the founder of Tesla Motors made it clear that the company intends to lift the restrictions on all patents!

Yesterday, in the lobby of the headquarters in Palo Alto, the wall was occupied by Tesla patents. They're gone. They were removed, in the spirit of the open source movement, to promote the technology of electric cars. Tesla Motors will not initiate patent lawsuits against those who use our technology in good faith, Musk said.

Previously, patents were a way to protect against competitors, but it turned out that the largest automakers are afraid or unwilling to promote electric cars. Now, any “conscientious” car manufacturer or even an individual can use the developments of the California company freely.

Musk himself does not fear for his business, opening developments to the public. In his opinion, technological leadership is determined not by patents, but by the ability to attract the best in their field. In addition, this step is beneficial for Tesla Motors. Without a competitive market, there will be no infrastructure or legislation to promote electric transport.

And do not forget that the current patents are only the tip of the iceberg called Tesla Motors, the company still has vast experience, high-tech enterprises and leading engineers who continue to develop and research in the field of electric vehicles.
