Mixuro and 150 residents of Valencia has built a geodesic dome Aground City out of cardboard

An annual celebration Falla Castielfabib, Valencia was erected installation Aground City, which is a geodesic dome. Architectural Studio Mixuro organized a seminar, which was attended by over 150 residents. After the workshop, the joint effort was to build structures from reused wooden planks and cardboard tubes.

Inspired by the collective attempts of urban residents who wanted to help a beached whale, architects Mixuro decided to involve district residents, children and friends to create their cardboard installation. After conducting a survey among the participants about how they would like to help their city, the team made a cardboard 4 color components for the manufacture of the dome. Components of four different colors were then distributed to the groups participating in the construction of the residents.

Each participant received component dome yellow, pink, orange, or peach color, depending on how he answered a series of questions regarding strategies of ecological development of the city. Questions ranged from issues of public transport and the introduction of a greater number of bike lanes before the reconstruction of public places.

The dome consists of triangles of different sizes, collected from materials that were thrown in local furniture factories as well which was bought on sale. For connecting together triangular elements were used wooden planks, cardboard tubes and fittings. For sealing joints are used latex.

At the end, the geodesic dome was burnt down during the ceremony.
