Uruguay took the lead in renewable energy

In July, the Uruguayans, receiving invoices for payment of electricity, was happy to find that they fell by 5.5%. Small businesses now to save on electricity 6%. Note that today the Uruguayans receive 84% of all electricity through wind, water and sun and this indicator can be considered as a world leader. In addition to these sources of energy, Uruguay produces it by burning plant waste after harvest of the grain.

Uruguay (population 3.2 million) is among the moderately developed countries, the average monthly income for a family is € 1,300. In the absence of own oil and gas reserves, electricity is expensive, the average bill for a family – 160 Euro. Meanwhile, winter in the humid oceanic climate is a serious challenge for the Uruguayans.

To solve this problem, since 2008 Uruguay has invested 3% of GDP in changes in the structure of its energy on the terms of public-private partnerships. Ten years Uruguayans expects to completely transition to self-sufficiency in electricity production.
