New – a potential source of gamma rays
Scientists have managed with the help of one of the devices of gamma-ray telescope to detect gamma rays of high intensity, emitted by exploding stars. An important discovery was denied before the existing theory that the power of the explosion of new, high insufficient, so they cannot serve as a source of intense radiation.
Four years ago the gamma rays scientists have discovered, watching new V407 Cygni, which is in the plane of the milky Way is located at a distance 9 thousand light years from Earth. The latest observations with the LAT allowed us to see the increase in brightness previously invisible stars that lasted a matter of seconds. The reason for this thermonuclear explosions characteristic of binary star systems, consisting usually of stars-white dwarfs, each of which "picks up" the mass of the companion star. However, unlike them, the destruction of the stars in this case does not occur.
New early scientists were not considered as a possible source of intense gamma radiation, as they were considered not able to accelerate to a speed approaching the speed of light.
Now, thanks to the discovery made, the author of which is an astrophysicist Teddy Cheung (Cheung Teddy) from the Washington laboratory of the Naval Research Laboratory, radically changing the opinion on this question. Proof of this are the new discoveries that were made possible through the use of the telescope, which was made about two years ago (Nova Nova Mon and Sco).
