A group of scientists started comparing genotypes of polar bears from the archipelago of the new earth with other populations of this species. According to preliminary data collected by specialists on this, in the near future they will become aware of new, previously unknown polar bear population living predominantly along the Arctic coast.
Another fundamental task of the research group is comparing the genome of animals to find information about the meetings of two different families, respectively, living in different parts of the world.
The project, dubbed the "White bear" is being implemented by scientists at the vast number of square meters within the national Park, where for several years a group of scientists under the leadership of Ilya Mordvintseva, occupying a senior post in the state Institute of ecology and evolution RAS.
