Disregard for the child makes him aggressive
Sociologists from the University of Penn argue that the physical neglect of the child makes him more angry and prone to violence.
According to William McGuigan, physical neglect is the most significant predictor of aggressive behavior. Specialist in family research, added that researchers are only beginning to recognize the important role of neglect in influencing violence in adolescents. "One of the problems with studying neglect is inaction. In other words, it is characterized as the absence of the act, and not the actual act of abuse".
The study found that while violence is a significant factor in aggressive behavior, physical neglect is an even stronger predictor of violence in adolescents than physical abuse or even physical abuse and neglect combined.
McGuigan explains: "It sounds a bit absurd, but the physical abuse might at least show some attention of parents to the child."
