First electric aircraft from Airbus

Electric cars are hard to surprise at the moment. Many have even seen an electric helicopter. What about an electric plane? Airbus has created its 1st aircraft that runs on electricity.

Two-seat aircraft called E-Fan is equipped with two engines, which are located in the wings. At the moment, the plane cannot fly for a long time - the stock of batteries is enough only for an hour of flight. And the speed it develops is small - only 183 km / h. But here the process of creating an electric aircraft is important. It is possible that in the future it will be possible to “breed” this development with simple aircraft, and you will get a more environmentally friendly aircraft.

E-Fan is an experimental project. The experience gained in its creation will be applied to other, larger projects. Eventually, the company plans to develop a small (about eighty seats) hybrid vehicle for local air travel.

In 2017, E-Fan will be used for pilot training.

In terms of working with electricity, aircraft manufacturers are far behind their counterparts in the automotive world. In the near future, there are no passenger aircraft operating on batteries. However, Airbus executives are confident about the future: by 2050, they are going to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 75 percent, reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by ninety percent and become quieter by 65 percent. A fairly large role in all this will play developments that are associated with the use of “clean” energy.

Jean Botti, chief engineer at Airbus, believes the company is on the right track.
