Photo essay — the most beautiful village in which there are no roads
I think we found the most cozy and relaxing place on earth.
The village of Giethoorn in Holland is a wonderful feature — you don't travel in cars or buses, simply there are almost no roads, only canals. Therefore, the main transport are boats, and the second the name of the village — the Dutch Venice. Hence the unique atmosphere of quietness, comfort and complete relaxation. Everything here breathes tranquility and leisurely abutment typical Dutch village from the 18th century.
The village's history begins in 1230, when a group of refugees from the South found this place. The only thing im struck by is the huge number of goat horns that were left after a severe flood. In this lies the secret of the name of the village — or Goat horns "goat horns".
Over time, people changed the name of the village on a more harmonious, but also found that there is a lot of peat. Joyful discovery, the inhabitants dug peat in places where it was most convenient. As a result of excavation pits appeared, later they became lakes, and then a chain of channels, which now attracts tourists like a magnet.
The houses in the village are mainly located on Islands and connected by wooden bridges, of which there are more than 50 pieces.
Almost all the houses in the village with a thatched roof marshy areas provide residents with lots of reeds. Previously, only rich people could afford a tiled roof and a used straw, now all the way around, a thatched roof is more expensive.
Move through the channels for anything: conventional boats, inflatable boats, small boats that can be rented. All the motors, no diesel.
