The greenest office in Asia

At first glance, in the office of the Shanghai company Glumac (Glumac) is not unusual. And on the second too. However, if you look carefully, you can see that the office is very difficult: it is among the most "green" offices in the world. Office Glumac does not consume electricity from the outside, does not use city water and does not pollute the environment. He meets certification of the Living Building Challenge (i.e. the Challenge of residential construction), which characterizes buildings according to several parameters: location, water consumption and electricity, how the room affects the health and joy, what is its cost and how well it looks.

For the architects who designed the office, the first problem was finding the right materials locally. For example stones. Under the terms of the LBC heavy building materials (cement, sand, stones) should only be of local origin. The reason is clear: trucks carrying materials and smoke — direct harm to the environment. But the problem is next to Shanghai there are no stone quarries. In the end of the countertop, which initially wanted to cut a stone, I had to make from Corian. Corian is a synthetic material made of acrylic polymer and aluminum trihydrate. Whatever it meant.

The office walls are insulated thin panels, which is inside the vacuum. Without insulation it is difficult to live regardless of the network even in Shanghai, where the temperature rarely drops to 0°. And remember, we wrote about passive house in the Austrian village?

Toilets too special, but just don't seem to be such. The difference is that the waste is placed in a container, heated, and then pressed. Container cleaned every half a year.

System of collection rainwater and solar energy provide the office with water and electricity to such an extent that he is enough for all domestic needs. This leaves so much that enough for all the nearby offices, but the building owner is not interested.

Continuing the list of interesting solutions, note the system of control of air pollution in the room. Workers are watching the state of the air in real time from their smartphones. The office employs a good air filtration system. Also in office there is a small greenhouse that also helps to filter the air.

The use of new technologies and modern materials have increased the cost of the office, but some will pay for it in the future. In this particular project, the architects saved on the fact that some materials were provided to them free of charge or sold at a discount. Why? Many companies want to enter the Shanghai market, and the office Glumac something of a showcase for the modern "green" technologies.
