Hot summer carries not only carefree rest, the aroma of ripe apricots and chocolate tan, but also very real health hazards, including overheating in the sun, known in medicine as heat stroke.
If you spend the whole day in a cool air-conditioned room, and go outside only with sunset - breathe calmly and read an article about the dangers of sedentary work. The rest are strongly invited to familiarize themselves with the symptoms of overheating, first aid rules and ways to avoid this insidious summer misfortune.
Degrees and symptoms of overheatingOverheating occurs when the body ceases to cope with thermoregulation. This occurs due to severe sweating, violation of water-salt metabolism and blood clotting, difficulty in blood flow and lack of oxygen in the brain.
There are 4 degrees of overheating of the body. Each of them has its own special characteristics.
- The first degree of overheating occurs at temperatures up to 40C. Heat transfer occurs through evaporation on the skin and breathing, the body temperature remains normal. A person may complain of lethargy, drowsiness, unwillingness to work.
- The second degree threatens us if the ambient temperature reaches 50C. The heat load ceases to be compensated by sweating, and heat accumulates in the body. The body temperature at the same time can reach 38C, a person is tormented by a feeling of heat, the pulse increases by 40-60 beats.
- Exposure to temperatures above 60C is fraught with a third degree of overheating. Body temperature increases to 40C, the heartbeat accelerates to 160 beats per minute. Redness of the skin is noted, sweat drains in large drops. A person may feel excitement, a feeling of compression in the temples, a severe headache.
- The fourth degree of overheating is called heat stroke. The activity of the heart and nervous system is sharply disturbed, a person urgently needs medical care.
Degrees of heat stroke severityIt is also important to remember that you can get severe heat stroke at a temperature of 40C if you are in an unfavorable environment for too long. Remember the severity of overheating.
- The mild form is characterized by headache, nausea, tachycardia, rapid breathing.
- The average form is accompanied by headache, nausea and vomiting, fainting, an increase in body temperature to 40 degrees.
- Severe form threatens confusion, arrhythmia, severe heat, delirium and even coma.
Act immediately: First aid for overheatingAt the slightest suspicion of heat stroke, emergency care is needed. Be attentive to others: often in the heat people become ill on public transport or on the street, and your intervention can save their lives. If you see that a person is weak on his feet, pale, holding his heart or head, ask if he needs help.
- Nude the victim, put him in the shade, raise his legs.
- Wash your body with a wet cool towel, soak your face, cool your head with a heat pack or cold compress.
- You can return a person to consciousness with the help of ammonia.
- When the victim returns to consciousness, give him cold water.
Especially difficult to tolerate overheating of the body of the elderly, obese people and children. The condition of the latter should be monitored especially carefully, because a small child can not clearly describe his feelings to an adult.
Child overheatingIf you are on the beach, and your child suddenly became sluggish, whiny, complains of nausea – do not blame it on the usual fatigue or whims. Immediately take him into the shade, give him a cold drink, observe the change in condition.
Remember: in the hot season to be in the sun until 10 am and after 4 pm. While the sun is at its zenith, arrange a siesta or try to stay in the shade.
Another important note: the symptoms of overheating can be confused with a cold due to headache and elevated body temperature. If you are not sure about the causes of your malaise, consult a doctor.
P.S. And remember, just changing our consumption – together we change the world!
