"The invention of Zhores will be the basis of the second generation research and development and experimental development (R & d) for mass production of solar cells in Russia. This became possible due to the fact that China had crashed the market of silicon – a key component of semiconductor heterostructures. He fell from 200 to 20 dollars, equaling to the cost of the glass," said Terukov.
Today, the production of panels made of silicon are as follows: on a glass substrate is applied a thin silicon layer is 2-3 microns. The efficiency of each element is an average of 10-15% and a payback period of 10-12 years. In solar technology Alferov glass replace crystalline silicon. As a result, the cost of panels drops by half, and efficiency, by contrast, is doubled.
Panels of this type is to be used to create solar power plants on the territories distant from Central power, in Siberia and the far East.
Recall that the academician Alferov has announced his return to experimental physics in the last year. He noted that the research in the field of renewable energy, in particular by improving the efficiency of solar panels.
