Scientists found genes that make us divided into larks and owls

Genetics from the research company highlighted 15 areas of the human genome that distinguish people who rise early ("larks"), from people who prefer to sleep late and Wake up late ("owls"). The discovery suggests that the commitment to certain rhythms set in people genetically.

The investigations were carried out in mice or fruit flies, and now geneticists increasingly available to study human genetic material. Scientists have found dependence, comparing the samples to 90,000 customers.

"We think about our behavior, how on their own or as part of our nature – but all these things are based on biological structure, says David hinds [David Hinds] working in statistical genetics. – I think people will be interested to find out how their biology affects their personality."

Statistical analysis with the data from customer surveys has allowed to identify 15 sites of the genome that is highly correlated with the daily routine of people. While individually, these genes had little impact on the statistics, but as a combined group, gave a statistically robust result.

Tellingly, the genes in seven of the 15 plots was found responsible for the body's circadian rhythms, and some for phototransduction, converting the light arriving on the retina into electrical impulses originating in the brain.

Known that circadian rhythms, cyclical fluctuations in the intensity of various biological processes associated with the change of day and night, is strongly associated with lighting.

In future studies it will be necessary to take into account such influencing factors statistics as errors when completing questionnaires, the effects of weather and seasonal fluctuations, and determine the specific genes responsible for such behavior.

In any case, it is clear that genes have a strong influence on the choice of schedule of sleep and wakefulness. Further studies will help not only to better understand the biology of the human body, but also lead to practical results.

For example, it is known that the absorption of drugs depends on the biological rhythms of a particular person. A more precise definition of circadian rhythms will allow you to enter patients smaller doses of medicines, and thereby minimize side effects.
