Azerbaijan will build the largest wind farm in the Caspian sea

Azerbaijan will build the largest wind farm in the Caspian sea basin. This was stated by Chairman of the State Agency for alternative and renewable energy Akim Badalov in an interview with Renewable Energy World.

A. Badalov said that the project cost is estimated at 300-330 million dollars: "the capacity of the plant will be 200 MW, which would save 200 thousand cubic meters of gas annually." According to him, from the very beginning it was planned to build a system without the use of surface platforms, but in this case, the project cost was doubled. The Chairman of the state Agency noted that the implementation of similar projects in some shallow areas in the Caspian sea is fraught with danger: "Some Islands may appear and disappear depending on changes in sea level. They are traps".

A. Badalov noted that the main contractor of the project will the State oil company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) with the involvement of foreign companies. The project is already interested company of China, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Germany. "The project will be implemented in three successive stages, comprising construction of wind power station, installation of platforms, the laying of the road and distribution network. The project will pay for itself within 10 years and will have a positive impact on increasing the tourism potential of the region", — said the head of the state Agency. published
