Mitsubishi will build marine wind farms in Europe

Mitsubishi Corp. build the wind farm Norther ("North wind") in the North sea 23 km from the coast of Belgium. The capacity of each turbine will be 8.4 megawatts — a record high for the wind turbine. In total, the company will install 44 turbines at the 370 MW. This energy will be enough to provide electricity to 400 000 families.

The construction of a large-scale project is estimated at 150 billion yen. Partner of the Japanese Corporation will make the Belgian company Elnu that specializiruetsya on renewable energy and Dutch energy company Eneco and construction firm Van Oord. Construction will begin in January. It is expected that Norther will be commissioned in the summer of 2019.

In The Netherlands Mitsubishi Corp. preparing a larger-scale project. The wind farm will be built off the coast of Borsele in the South-East of the country. The company will install 80 turbines at about 680 megawatts. The marine wind farm, which will cost 300 billion yen, will begin operations in 2020. To cooperate with the Japanese Corporation will be Eneco, Van Oord and Royal Dutch Shell.

Recall, Mitsubishi Corp. already has experience in the construction of solar power plants and terrestrial wind farm in Europe. The company also has two small offshore wind power plant in the Netherlands and Portugal. A Japanese Corporation wants to strengthen its position in clean energy and to contracts for the construction of wind farms in the North sea from Britain and France.

The North sea became a major centre for renewable energy in Europe. According to the Brussels Association WindEurope, at the moment in the North sea are 3,000 coastal turbines. By 2030 they will generate 4 GWh, which is 7% of the total proizvedenii in Europe of electricity. In this region wind energy is cheaper than nuclear, which leads to large-scale projects for electricity generation from wind. published
