Russian design saves up to 15% of the electricity
Postgraduate student of the Department of industrial and medical electronics of the Tomsk Polytechnic University Roman Gorbunov has developed a device able to translate the engine in an energy efficient mode of operation. The development is already interested in several large industrial companies.
The main element of the device is an electronic AC voltage. The device is made according to a unique scheme, which received a corresponding patent. It is intended for asynchronous motors, which are used for example in ventilation systems, pumps, conveyors.
The benefits of development efficiency and low cost.
"Energy efficiency is a common and rather complex concept. In this case we are talking about two indicators: the coefficient of performance (COP) and power factor. We are able to raise the motor's power factor from 0.5 to 0.9, whereas 1 is the maximum. Moreover, it maximizes to 1 the power factor of the entire system. This is a fundamentally important feature, as most counterparts, increasing the motor's power factor, reduce the figure for the system as a whole. In fact they are useless. And those analogues that do their job, are very expensive," — said Gorbunov.
Experimental version of the device is situated in the Novouralsk technological Institute MEPhI. The device is a universal asynchronous motors, and it can easily connect, for example, to the already assembled ventilation system.
"Our device allows for greater energy savings than the use of devices-analogues, without degrading the operation of other electrical equipment without negative impact on the engine itself. It is located between the mains supply and the motor, he had a completely standard inputs, so connectivity issues are not. Plus, besides the function of energy saving, it also "looking out" for the engine: diagnoses and can disable it if, for example, jamming or overheating. At the cost of our device while at the level of counterparts, but the efficiency is several times higher," — says the developer.
Interest in the project have already expressed several large enterprises, such as JSC "ARSIB", specializing in the design and manufacture of drive control systems.
"Another thing that enterprise Ural electrochemical plant, the largest enterprise for uranium enrichment. At the plant, dozens of shops, everywhere has its own ventilation, pumps and so on. Considering that the device allows to reduce the consumption of active power by the engine by 5-15% and reduce circulating reactive power of up to 50%, then the economic effect on such a large enterprise will be impressive. In General, the venture it will help to reduce energy consumption by up to 15%," adds Roman Gorbunov.
