Annie Leibovitz was born on October 2, 1949 in the small town of Westport (near Waterbury, CT, USA), the son of Samuel and Marilyn Leibovitz. Annie Leibovitz's father - an Air Force officer, his mother - a teacher of modern dance at the Art Institute of San Francisco. Annie Leibovitz originally wanted to become an art teacher, and after graduation went to college, where her mother worked. Art of photography was first interested her during a trip to Japan after the second year. Upon returning home, Annie Leibovitz immediately signed up for a photography course. In the third year, she decides to leave school and goes in search of new experiences with an archaeological expedition to Israel for the excavation of the palace of King Solomon. This is where Annie comes up with the idea to dedicate his life to the art of photography. In her own memoirs, one day, she sent another room leafing through magazines «Rolling Stone» - View photos of musicians became the starting point of her career.

After returning from Israel to the United States, she managed to not only get acquainted with the inspirer and chief editor of the magazine «Rolling Stone» Gen Wenner, but also to become a freelance photographer for its publication. Talent photographer Annie Leibovitz is appreciated - after a few years it became the main photographer of the most popular magazine in the musical environment.
