Enchanted Highway in the United States

Enchanted Highway - a 50-kilometer section of the highway, since exit 72 on Interstate 94, about 30 miles east of Dickinson in southwestern North Dakota. Highway begins near the town of Gladstone, and ends at the Regent, and there is a collection of large metal sculptures of geese, deer, pheasants, grasshoppers, President Theodore Roosevelt, and others. The sculptures were created by former school teacher Gary Gref from the Regent. He created these figures in the hope that his hometown on the map and notice, so it will prevent it from fading into obscurity.





Small towns in the country is gradually emptying and Gary Gref worried about this growing trend. So, since 1990, he began to create massive metal sculptures, which he planned to place along the highway Gladstone regent every few miles to arouse the curiosity of drivers and tourists, riding on the road. Gary wants to create ten sculptures. Until now, it had completed seven of them. All sculptures are facing north towards oncoming traffic, and next to each of them there is a place for a picnic and leisure travelers. That Gary Gref's idea to rename the street in the Enchanted Highway.



In the Gary help volunteers and local farmers. Some farmers also gave former teacher generous terms for the lease of land for the construction work: something like $ 1 for 20-year lease with an option to renew. Local Boy Scout movement and the school shop helped with some of the tools and picnic tables. But Gary does most of the work himself. He cuts the grass under the statues, build parking lots and fences.
