Siemens has introduced an electric motor for aircraft with record-breaking performance

Povalny transition to electric traction while not particularly affect aviation - electric motors lose the characteristics of long-tested engine models. But even here, progress is not in place. Siemens has recently unveiled a new aircraft motor with record-breaking performance.

The engine weighs only 50 kg has an output of 260 kW. For comparison - the Tesla S engine weighs 160 kg and has an output of 310 kW. That is, the specific power of the engine from Siemens is around 5.2 against 1.9 in Tesla. These characteristics allow the engine to create aircraft with takeoff weight of up to two tons. Wherein the propeller for transmission is not required, because the motor produces 2500 rpm.

"This innovation will allow the aircraft to mass-produce a hybrid-powered with four or more seats, - says Frank Anton, the head of the research division on aviation development in eAircraft by Siemens. Tests should begin as early as this year, and in the meantime the company's engineers are planning to further increase performance propulsion. Anton believes that is realistic in the medium term to see on local airlines hybrid aircraft with hundreds of seats. Who knows, maybe soon Tesla, or someone else will make flying car's electric ...
