At the University of Pennsylvania have created a program that draws portraits from DNA

Professor of Anthropology and Genetics, University of Pennsylvania created a program , which analyzes human DNA and draws his portrait. Scientists have discovered how genes influence the creation of the face. Program in a few minutes portrays connecting genetic markers and part of the face. Why do it, scientists are debating.

Mark Shriver, a professor of anthropology and genetics, and his team figured out how DNA affects the structure of the human person. The result of the study was a program that can draw a portrait. At first sight between the portrait and the original there is a similarity. Scientists are trying to find out in what areas can be applied to develop.

To create the program, Dr. Shriver measured seven thousand points of the human face and analyzed their relationship with thousands of genetic variants. The program makes a portrait based on the person, information about his ancestors, and twenty-four versions twenty genes responsible for the structure of the face.

Editorial New York Times проверила compliance portraits originals. To do this, scientists sent a DNA reporter John Markoff and videozhurnalista Keytrin Spangler. In addition to DNA samples no information was not - neither the weight nor the growth nor the age of the subjects. In the first photo - John Markoff, no one in the wording could not recognize the portrait - the upper right. Later, Dr. Shriver introduced into the program age, received a portrait at the bottom right - more like the truth.

Keytrin Spangler learned ten colleagues.

What options are there in the use of this technology? The first arises криминалистика. Recent developments allow to find out the floor, eye color, hair color, the countries of the suspect. But much more interesting would be if DNA can simply print an identikit of the criminal, as it did in the District of Columbia, United States. This portrait made by another company - Parabon NanoLabs.
