And we will go to the north

Scientists have conducted ice and meteorological measurements, studied the distribution of water masses, currents and temperature variability, as well as established forty drifting buoys on ice floes and icebergs. In addition, the researchers observed the marine animals and birds, to assess how oil production will affect the nature of the Arctic, which subsequently helps to develop environmental standards of offshore development.

"Kara-Summer 2014" was held on the vessel "Akademik Tryoshnikov" and continued the work started by winter expedition in the Laptev Sea, Kara Sea, East Siberian and Chukchi seas. Scientists were able to explore the waters off the coast of Novaya Zemlya, Severnaya Zemlya and De Long Islands. Among the objectives of the expedition members were studies in meteorology, oceanography, lithodynamics, geochemistry, volcanology, ecology. Particular attention was paid to the icebergs - tracing the trajectory of their movement, speed and direction of drift. Biologists have studied the habitat of marine mammals, birds and polar bears.
