Salty Amadeus

This unique lake, located in the south-western part of the Northern Territory of Australia, most of the time completely covered with a layer of solidified salt. And only during the rainy filled with water.

Despite these harsh conditions, in the middle of the lake there are several islands of red sand, which even grow vegetation. Plants adapted to the conditions of elevated levels of salt, very high temperatures all year round and a persistent lack of moisture. Lake Amadeus has an elongated shape. With an average width of about 10 kilometers, its length is about 180 kilometers. On contingent valuation, lake contains about 600 million tons of salt. However, because of the distance, mining is not conducted.
