Smartphone on edge: Samsung Galaxy Edge with a new curved display

Among today’s premieres of Samsung at the Berlin exhibition IFA 2014 cramped conceptually interesting model Galaxy Note Edge with stretched on the end of the screen.

Ever since humanity switched to mobile monoblocks with touchscreen, there have been attempts to somehow change or improve this format. Curved smartphones LG and Samsung we have already seen, someone showed and dual-screen smartphones Yota. But now Samsung has released a phone with a charming asymmetry in the form of a display stuck on the right end.

I must say, the model looks more interesting than a typical Korean smartphone due to the aluminum rope around the perimeter of the case. With the help of a curved screen, they tried to make it more functional:

The idea is that on the end of the screen you can display various notifications, statuses — in general, use it as a taskbar in Windows — even when full-screen applications are running. Moreover, you can contact them even when the main part of the display is turned off - to save energy. The number of applications of the sidewall is limited only by the imagination of the developers - for example, they have already built a ten-centimeter ruler there.

Otherwise, the characteristics as characteristics: the screen (in the flat part) with a diagonal of 5.6 and a resolution of 2560x1440 pixels. In the side display fit another 2560x160 pixels. Filling to choose quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 with a frequency of 2.7 GHz) or eight-core (Samsung Exynos 5433 with a frequency of 1.9 GHz) with three 3 gigs of RAM in both. Built-in memory – 32/64 GB + microSD card slot. The only thing missing is USB 3.0 and FM radio. The weight of the smartphone is 174 grams, the battery capacity is 3000 mAh.

Do you think it'll fly?
