Sono: Active noise reduction system for windows
Many modern headphones include active noise cancellation system - built-in microphone picks up external noise and suppresses their sending to the speakers from the microphone signal in antiphase. Austrian industrial designer Rudolf Stefanich предложил similar noise reduction system, but works on the scale of the whole room. The device, called Sono, must be attached to the window pane on the suction cup. It includes a microphone and speaker, pressed against the glass and use it as a resonator. As shown by the tests of the prototype, which allows to reduce the noise by 12 decibels.
Besides simple squelch Sono, according to the authors, can selectively suppress unwanted noise and pass pleasant sounds, such as the noise of leaves or birds singing - it will deal with built-in signal processor, which will analyze the signal from the microphone.
Sono project reached the final of the competition James Dyson Award in 2013. So far, the device exists only as a prototype - the author of the idea of looking for investors and partners to transform the concept into a commercial product.
