Life at the Pole of Cold (17 photos)

Photographer Maxim Chemetov spent two weeks in difficult conditions valley Oymyakon in Sakha Republic, in the north-east of Russia. Oymyakon is known as one of the "cold pole" of the Earth. In 1933 there was registered the lowest temperature in the Northern Hemisphere since the beginning of the twentieth century - 67, 8 degrees below zero. On this and a number of other parameters Oimyakon Valley is the most inhospitable places on the planet, home to a permanent population. In the local village Tomtor a hospital, a school with literary and local history museum, a library, a cultural center, a children's music school, shops, internet and mobile communications. Two kilometers from the village is the airport.
