The most ancient breakwater
Lebanese Batroun city is considered one of the oldest on the planet. It was founded about five thousand years ago. However, today we will talk not only about the city itself, but also a breakwater, which is considered the oldest in the world.
Batroun is located 50 kilometers away from Beirut and 300 kilometers from Tripoli. In his time, he was one of the most important cities in the region from the Phoenicians. Scientists believe that the name of the village comes from the Phoenician Bater, which translates as "cut". Breakwater came here by chance. Initially, it was a natural coastal protection in the form of fossilized sand dunes. In the first century BC the Phoenicians strengthened the creation of a natural stone. The length of the breakwater is about 225 meters, and destroyed so far. The height ranges from a meter and a half.
