German scientists compared the Internet addiction with an addiction to nicotine
Scientists from the University of Bonn in Germany found that Internet addiction is inherited and is comparable with the addiction to nicotine. On it informs edition Journal of Addiction Medicine.
In the experiment, the researchers interviewed more than 800 people - professionals interested in online preferences of subjects. Then they did a DNA test 132 people who were diagnosed with dependence on the network. For comparison, they also identified a control group.
In many subjects, mostly women, found the same genetic variation, which is primarily associated with nicotine dependence - a mutation in the gene CHRNA4.
According to scientists, sex differences may cause membership of a particular subgroup dependent, in particular - depending on the social networks. Special genetic variant was most common among female users.
Also, there is a particular gene in humans, just not able to move away from the monitor, as well as for those Internet lovers who become uncomfortable if they do not have access to the Internet. According to scientists, the dependence on the network has the same genetic overtones, like smoking, so it is a very real problem, biologically justified.
Experts believe that it is necessary to conduct a number of studies. It is also planned to start the development of new treatments.
