Two new elements of the periodic table will be named

Two new elements of the periodic table, synthesized by physicists from Moscow Science Town Dubna, 24 October will be officially given the name, RIA "Novosti».

Element under the number 114 was first produced in 2000, and element 116 - in 2004 as a result of experiments conducted in Dubna Laboratory of Nuclear Studies. Flerov at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. In the experiments, participated American experts from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Subsequent years have gone to confirm the discoveries.

According to the decision of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry in May of this year, element 114 was named "Flerova" and item 116 - "Livermore". From now on, they will be shown in the periodic table as Fl and Lv.

Official ceremony of naming the new elements will be held in the Central House of Scientists of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow.

Previous 112 element was discovered by German physicists in 1996. By 2010, its existence was confirmed, and he was given the name "Copernicus." Currently, a working group of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry is working on confirmation of the existence of several more, nameless yet superheavy elements - 113, 115, 117 and 118. It is interesting that all these elements were first synthesized in Dubna scientists.

Search for superheavy elements in nature have not been successful. In the field of the known universe absent or too remote areas where such elements could exist without decaying for a small fraction of a second.
