Star excavator

This monster was built by the German company ThyssenKrupp Fordertechnik back in 1978, but still remains the largest excavator in the world, continues to work on one of Germany's coal pits.
His name Bagger 288. Its weight is about 13, 5 thousand tons, the length - 240 meters, height - 96 meters (approximately as 35-storey building), and the width - 46 meters.
Bagger - in German - is an excavator, in this case - the rotor.
Only one rotor which this monster cuts the coal seam is able to inspire awe.
It has a diameter of 21 and 6 meters (an 8-storey building), it comprises 18 buckets 6, 6 cubic meters each. This makes the wheel 48 rpm. During the day, he shovels 240 thousand cubic meters of rock, which is about the filling cup football stadium at a height of 10-storey building.

One of the most interesting moments in the construction of a power supply giant. It turns out - and the caterpillar, and the rotor and other mechanisms in place results in hundreds of electric motors with a total capacity of tens of megawatts - like a small town.

This energy derives from the excavator industrial grid on a long a thick cable.

But the movement of the Bagger 288 gathered day and night, hundreds of onlookers.
By the way, it works simultaneously on the change in the number of four. Total three shifts so that a colossus-hour.

To change during the many hours they did not have to descend from the sky (and as yet to name a colossus with a modest height of a skyscraper) on the ground - just inside the excavator is arranged mess with toilet and kitchen, a large supply of water.

Here is such a beast!
