Sony plans to sell the business to produce Vaio PC
Sony is in talks c Japanese investment fund Japan Industrial Partners (joint venture Bain & Co. and Mizuho Securities Co) to sell its loss-making units for the production of computers Vaio. This is indicated by the sources of The Wall Street Journal.
The past few years, Sony massively cutting jobs and closing plants to deal with losses. But the television business and the business of manufacturing PC drags the company down and causes irritation investors require to get rid of non-performing assets.
Now according to this plan, Japan Industrial Partners will create a new company to consolidate Vaio business in Japan. Details about the price and the amount of the purchased package are still being discussed. In addition, Sony is thinking about winding down operations in foreign markets PC.
As the newspaper Nikkei, a division Vaio will be sold for 50 billion yen ($ 493 million) and Sony will continue only a small share in the new company.
According to analysts WSJ, this year's loss from Sony PC business will be 30-40 billion yen (at least $ 300 million).
