April 18: World Day launch balloons in the stratosphere
Organization Global Space Balloon Challenge announced the international educational competition to launch balloons in space (the stratosphere). Participants invited activists from around the world.
Prizes are awarded in three categories: best design, best picture and the highest rise.
Participation is free. Organizers note that the ball with the equipment will cost 200-700 dollars, so competition is quite democratic: can participate and students, and students. List of materials see. here .
Each team that participates in the competition must run a balloon from 18 to 21 April. The ball must be equipped at least a transmitter and a GPS-camera for shooting. Each team must have at least two people: there is such a demand for security because the ball pumping helium / hydrogen can be dangerous for one person, as well as search for the fallen basket. Experience shows that the basket can land in remote places: mountains, lakes, oceans, deserts, and so on.
Registration Team carried out on official website .
Time to run better choice considering the proposed route of the ball, which can be calculated on the websites http://predict.habhub.org/ and http://weather.uwyo.edu/polar/balloon_traj.html.
