Festival camel fights
Every third Sunday of January in the Turkish town of Selcuk, near the ancient Ephesus, traditional festival begins camel fights. This tradition has about 2 400 years: it has its origin from the ancient Turkic tribes. In fact, this competition is based on the fight for male camel. Because of rising costs for training and breeding of camels, the sport is in decline. Big bets and wagers are made mainly by the owners of the camels and the wealthy audience. Once the widespread Turkic tradition is now disappearing. In addition, it is unacceptable from the point of view of animal protection.
