Antelope





The color of poppies can be seen throughout California, but perhaps nowhere in the world do not have such large concentrations of wild flowers in the Antelope Valley. Every spring, the desert comes to life deaf and sparkles millions of blooming poppies.



Flowering season of these amazing colors, which many legends and stories, usually begins in mid-February and ends in the last days of May. It all depends on how much rain falls during the winter in California and early spring days.



Antelope Valley located in the west of the Mojave Desert. Until the seventies of the last century the owners of the sheep brought their cattle to pasture here, but on the initiative of the local authorities of grazing eventually became prohibited.



Now Antelope Valley is a protected area, which is also protected from poaching and other human interference.



The reserve has eleven kilometers of paved roads. Among the poppy fields there is even a trail for people who are moving in a wheelchair. On the benches along the field, you can sit back, relax and enjoy all the pleasures of wildlife: marvelous scenery, gentle singing larks and travel local lizards. To preserve the natural look of the Antelope Valley, the flowers are not watered and could not stimulate their growth.



By the way, poppies - are not the only flowers that grow in the Antelope Valley. You can also find coreopsis, clover, lupins, and a lot of colors that create a unique color palette and the heady aroma of every spring.
