This vegetable plant is very different from all vegetables. With food insecure, it can save your wallet, your health, and even your life.

We're talking about grain beans. What good is it? The fact is that beans are used in the form of dry seeds. Because of their structure, they are very well stored. For example, in a sealed jar, legumes “live” up to 30 (!) years without loss of nutritional value. We already mentioned this in the article about the shopping list in case of an emergency.

Beans are quite easy to grow. This vegetable crop can be placed in any vacant areas. For example, near a fence, between trees, rows of potatoes and cabbage. In addition, beans return nitrogen to the soil, which is so greedy absorbed by other vegetables. Thanks to this, their harvest can be increased many times.

If we talk about nutritional properties, beans are a valuable source of plant protein. 100 grams of beans contain about 22 grams of protein. And this is one and a half times more than in scarce buckwheat and walnuts.

Anti-crisis beans can be almost a complete substitute for meat. Its grains are among the record holders for the number of vitamins B, aluminum, potassium and iron. Therefore, it is wonderful for the preparation of many delicious and at the same time hearty dishes.

One of the problems when storing beans is bean grain. You've probably found traces of her activity. This malignant bug is hiding in the collected seeds. And then comes out of them during storage, leaving holes and striking the surviving grains.

To get rid of the scourge, you need to take a number of actions. First, put the collected grains in the water. Those affected by the pest are lighter and will remain on the surface. They can then be removed. Secondly, dry the beans well in the sun. And third, to further protect the crop, keep it in the refrigerator for two weeks.

The reason for such actions is that bean grain beetles love heat very much. At temperatures from zero to two degrees of frost, they die in 15 days. At four degrees in ten days. And at fifteen - in 1-2 days. Next, fill the beans with sealed cans and put dill and a couple of cloves of garlic in each branch.

So the plan is this: plant a lot of beans. It is best to combine it with grains: rice, barley or any other cereal. However, we find this neighborhood somewhat unusual. But it is useful and very nutritious. And in Portuguese, Turkish and Brazilian cuisine is used everywhere.

As a result, you will get good nutrition, which will allow you to hold out for a long time in conditions of shortage of other products. Let us hope that our lives will soon return to normal. In the meantime, it is worth meeting the problems that await us, fully armed. And the garden will do that.
