Hastily picked out a suspicious seedling, it grew the best apple tree in my garden.

How to choose a seedling For your own garden, so as not to regret it in the future? There are many varieties of the same apples. There are summer, autumn and winter seasons. There are sour and sweet, and sweet and sour, and all sorts of tastes, and different juiciness, and trees are of different heights.

And this when choosing still need to buy in a safe place to sell you a tree of the right variety. After all, in the worst case, instead of an apple tree, an inexperienced summer resident can buy even aspen or maple. And that happens.

When we had a plot, we decided to choose several seedlings. Since my wife loves apples, the choice was simple. But what kind should I give preference to? Of course, the day before we re-read half of the Internet, but in the end decided to understand already on the spot, writes Evgeny.

“Let’s go for apple trees to the garden center, there is a lot of choice. Moreover, it was easy to navigate, because each tree is accompanied by a detailed description: there is a ripening time, and the size of the apple tree, and the taste of the apples themselves. We are inexperienced people, so we did not pay attention to the names of the varieties themselves, we looked only at descriptions.”

“In the end, my wife and I settled on four seedlings. And in the notebook recorded varieties: “Moscow necklace”, “Moscow grushovka”, “Marat Busurin” and “Medunica”. At the same time, in early autumn 2018, we planted seedlings on the site and planted them. And in the spring, they were glad that the apple trees took root successfully. The first harvest was only last year.”

Summer apples from Medunica and Moscow Grushovka did not impress us, although they did not disappoint. Moderately sweet, but with a barely perceptible sourness, ripen closer to the beginning of August. But the autumn fruits of the variety “Moscow necklace” did not please us. Although the tree is small and quickly yields a harvest, but the apples are simply tasteless, with a taste of some greenery. Like green bananas.

A good choice of apple tree “But Marat Busurin” is an amazing hit on the target. For the first two years, the tree stood without fruit, although it bloomed magnificently in May. I already thought with my wife that it did not take root and will have to get rid of such an apple tree. But we did manage to eat apples this year.”

“Although at first these apples were not good for us. But later it turned out that we rushed to conclusions. After all, you need to try apples of this variety not in August, when they turn red, but only in September. And the fruit of it was incredible. Sweet, with wonderful flesh. These are the best apples we have tasted in years.”

We also note good frost resistance, the ability of apples to be stored for a long time in winter, and a small tree (up to 3 meters in height). They even regretted planting only one such apple tree. But now we know exactly what we will change the “Moscow necklace” that we do not like. And the price of a seedling of 300-500 rubles seems more than adequate, - rejoices Evgeny.

Of course, the young people were lucky, because all four seedlings took root and gave fruit. And apples from only one tree owners did not like. So the choice at random turned out to be quite successful. In many ways, his role here was played by the fact that Evgeny and his wife bought seedlings at a reliable point of sale.

And if you avoid random sellers, and buy planting material, for example, in local nurseries, where they sell districtd varieties (already adapted to local conditions), then you should not worry. Consult in advance with neighbors or familiar summer residents and choose the most acceptable variety in all parameters.

And if you buy seedlings in dubious places, then do not be surprised if a pear planted in autumn blooms in spring, for example, lilac. Although it happens that you take a seedling at random in the market, plant on the edge of the plot and forget about it. Years later, something truly amazing grows up. But that's not always the case...
