Is this picture causing you a strange concern? The scientists explained the reason.

Majority phobia It is easy to explain, such as fear of the dark, closed spaces or dogs. But there are a few curious fears that seem completely irrational and defy any explanation. One of them is trypophobia.

Look at this image. How do you feel?

It is difficult to imagine yourself in the skin of a person who is afraid of holes and holes, but the subconscious sometimes plays cruel jokes with us. The sufferer of this phobia feels anxiety and disgust at the sight of a washcloth, dilated pores, cheese with holes and even a bar of porous chocolate!

This curious psychological phenomenon began to be discussed in the early 2000s. Trypophobia was studied by scientists from the University of Oxford. They began to identify the factors and causes that affect the occurrence of this disorder.

An experiment by scientists from the University of Kent, which involved 600 people, showed unexpected results. Each subject was shown 16 photos, which showed different kinds of cluster holes. Half of them were related to human diseases, and the other half were not.

It turned out that trypophobes feel discomfort at the sight of absolutely all pictures, and the highest degree of panic they cause images associated with diseases.

Experts have found that with trypophobia, performance decreases, there is a loss of coordination, dizziness, nausea and vomiting, as well as nervousness.

Just imagine, from one look at a pod of beans or a graphic drawing, allergic reactions and redness appear on the skin, sweating increases, heartbeat increases, tremors in the extremities occur. Unbelievable, but it's a fact!

In trypophobia, fear causes:

  1. Holes in living organisms, on the tissues of animals and humans, skin acne, acne, open pores, skin destruction, holes in muscles, holes in various glands.
  2. Holes in food, including veins and veins in raw meat, cheese circles, honeycombs, holes in fruits and vegetables, bread holes.
  3. Holes in plants (pods of peas and beans, corn, seeds).
  4. Geological holes of natural origin (water in rocks, organic, natural minerals).
  5. Holes made by living organisms (worms, larvae, caterpillars).
  6. Graphic and digital images of multiple holes.

Panic in trypophobes cause not all items from this list. They may be afraid of washcloth, but completely calm about honeycombs. According to psychologists, this is due to biological squeamishness and fear that someone can live in the holes and be to some extent dangerous.

Unusual fear is in 10% of the inhabitants of the planet, but some it is pronounced, and others do not even suspect its existence. Scientists suggest that trypophobia is part of a person’s self-preservation mechanism. It helps to avoid infectious diseases and parasites, because infection with such diseases causes the appearance of cluster holes on the skin.
