Impoverished school curriculum in literature, which teach our children
Reading books used to play an important role. Back in Soviet times, people gave away large sums of money to buy scarce books. Reading was not only a pleasant pastime, but also a way to plunge into another world, using all the possibilities of the human brain and imagination.
A new generation is growing up in a different environment. When reading books is considered boring, unfashionable and expensive. And today's edition. "Site" Take a look at how the last 25 years have changed. literature. Many books have been mercilessly thrown away. And instead of them included sometimes quite ambiguous works.
Literature has always reflected the mood in society. So I was particularly interested in comparing how my favorite subject has changed over the years. Especially since I remember everything that we went through in school at the time, writes Ksenia.
“A lot has changed from fifth to seventh grade. The Deniskins Tales and Timur and His Team are forever a thing of the past. Instead, it seems, appeared “Nikita” by Andrei Platonov and “Vasyutkino Lake” by Viktor Astafiev. It is significant that Vasyutka, who helped everyone alone, replaced Timur, who always worked in the team. Thus, the collective feat seems to have been replaced by a personal feat.”
“Maksim Gorky’s books on a difficult childhood also disappeared, but Rasputin’s books appeared in the school curriculum. It is especially strange that Gorky’s “Song of Petrel” did not fit into the program. We were taught that this is a work of freedom. Has it become irrelevant?
Yuri Olesha’s “Three Fat Men” also ceased to be important enough. But “Yushka” and “In a beautiful and furious world” by Andrei Platonov still continue to acquaint young people with the theme of mercy. But the presence in the program for the seventh grade of Ray Bradbury’s book “Vacation” was surprising. Quite a strange choice, isn't it?
“To sum up, all the books on revolutionary feats, struggle and cohesion have simply disappeared. But books about personal successes, troubles and experiences are firmly established in the program.”
It was even more interesting to assess how the school curriculum in literature changed for grades 8-11, because it was at this time that the child’s worldview was actively formed, and awareness of his role in society came. And again I see the same Platonov with Astafyev. Although it is not entirely clear why there are so many of them and why it is impossible to introduce schoolchildren to the works of other authors.”
I remember that in our time, Mikhail Sholokhov’s book “Virgin Raised” had a huge impact on us. And now I don't see her on the program. But shouldn’t today’s students learn about those first steps of the USSR, about the appearance of collective farms? Less were the works of Pushkin and Lermontov. But they added Solzhenitsyn.”
It seems that everything Soviet was removed from the school curriculum. And if it is not a pity to say goodbye to some ideological books, then without the work of Olesha, Kataev, Gaidar and Dragunsky, the school curriculum became only worse. These books were not just read, they were quoted. What do modern students quote? ?
“The social feat was pushed far back, and the personal feat was put at the forefront. In honor became literature, mercilessly criticizing the Soviet government. As a result, the story becomes one-sided. At that time it was not only bad, but also good. And it is sad that our grandchildren look at us with some regret, because they simply did not hear and do not know about all the beautiful things that happened in our lives.
Of course, times change, so you have to take something out of it. curriculumTo add something more relevant. But we do not always agree with such changes. Especially if you throw away books that were a great discovery.
