A selection of dishes that will smell like jasmine flowers

The unique aroma of jasmine has made it a popular ingredient in many recipes. Most often, the petals of the plant are added to drinks. But the essence of jasmine can bring a savory note to ice cream, desserts, pastries and even second courses!

Jasmine Jasmine's fragrance or blackhead? Let’s start with a common misconception. Jasmine is often referred to as tartan, or garden jasmine. Meanwhile, these shrubs are not even close relatives. Real jasmine (Jasminum) is an evergreen plant of the olive family. And familiar to us tartan (Philadelphus) sheds leaves for the winter and belongs to the family Hortensius.

Phere brings them together only the presence of white flowers with a sweet smell. How do you know if you have jasmine in front of you? In the store, use the Latin name. In the garden, first look at the flowers. It has a rounded cup with 4-6 petals and many (20 to 70) stamens. Jasmine has a more oblong corolla, petals are elongated, and stamens are only 2.

The leaves of jasmine are elongated and dense, and in the blackberry they are wider, with a large number of veins and small cloves around the edges. After flowering, the ovary of the first turns into a berry, and the second into a seed box, as in the photo.

It should also be remembered that jasmine is a very heat-loving plant, prefers subtropics. Therefore, if you live in the suburbs, then the shrub with fragrant white flowers under your window, which grandmothers amicably call jasmine, most likely, is nothing more than a strand.
