A test of knowledge of world capitals to test the power of memory

We have all studied geography in our time. And some people also like to travel and easily list the capitals of the most famous countries in the world, even with their eyes closed. But all of them? Let’s start with a simple question: what is the name of the capital of Kazakhstan?

"Alma-Ata!" is the most likely to say those who graduated from high school before 1997. "Astana," the younger ones will correct them. And only the most politically savvy will name the correct answer - Nur-Sultan.

Ideally, of course, an educated person would like to know the capitals of all countries. But the situation is complicated by the fact that some countries may have not one, but two or even three capitals. How well do you know the map of the world? If you name at least 8 capitals out of 10, you can rightly consider yourself a true expert in geography.

There are several options for each of the countries, from which you need to choose the right one. You will find the answers at the end of the article, but don’t look!

  2. The smallest among the Slavic states is famous for its beaches and appeared on the world map not so long ago, on June 3, 2006. According to the constitution, Montenegro has two capitals. The official and cultural capital is Cetinje and the actual capital is Podgorica.

  4. Switzerland does not have a de jure capital. The largest city is Zurich (more than 400 thousand people), but Bern is actually considered the capital (131 thousand people).

  7. Many people think that the capital of the Principality is Monte Carlo. In fact, this honor belongs to the administrative region of Monaco. In order not to confuse the name of the capital and the principality, it is also called Monaco-Ville.
  8. Located simultaneously in Europe and Asia, Istanbul is Turkey’s largest city and its unofficial cultural capital. Ankara has been the official capital since 1923.
  9. Lagos was the capital of the most populous African country until 1991. Nigerian President Murtala Mohammad then moved the capital from the coast to the central and relatively small city of Abuja.
  10. When we think about Australia, we often imagine its largest and oldest city – Sydney. At one time it competed for the right to be the capital of the Commonwealth of Australia with the second largest Melbourne. However, in 1908 it was decided to build a new city, which was named Canberra.
