In Singapore, developed a satellite garbageman

Singapore-based startup Astroscale, founded by Japanese engineers, has unveiled its version of a space debris cleaner that will help cope with the growing number of debris and failed spacecraft in orbit.

As part of the test mission, the developers of Astroscale plan to send two satellites into orbit to clean up. The principle of operation of the devices is simple: once they enter orbit, they will begin to determine the location of the spent elements, after which they will approach them and attract them to themselves. Having collected a sufficient amount of debris, the cleaners will enter the Earth’s atmosphere together with them and burn up in it along with the debris. They are going to take them from six months to a year to collect garbage.

Over the past 30 years, the amount of space debris has increased significantly, so the problem of cleaning it is becoming more acute. Experts from different countries are working on its solution, offering their own options. For example, Roscosmos recently opened a space debris tracking station that will help determine its location, and the NASA space agency launched the Innovative Advanced Concepts program, within which it will sponsor interesting and promising projects related to cleaning the orbit from debris. Attempts to clean up in space were made by the Japanese, but their device did not cope with the task. published
