Village of snake charmers in India
In the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh is the village Bahpur known as a settlement of snake charmers. The ancient tribe of snake charmers Saperas flourished for many generations, they were catching poisonous snakes and made them dance to its tune. Snakes are very revered by the Hindus in India and the snake charmers believe followers of Lord Shiva, blue-skinned Hindu God who is usually depicted with a king Cobra on his neck. Snake charmers used to be constantly present in the Indian markets and festivals, they drew crowds of onlookers, surprising for its ability to control the most venomous creatures. Casters were often the main source of medicines, if someone suffered from a snake bite. The snake charmers say their centuries-old traditions gradually dying out, as the authorities seek to enforce laws on the protection of wildlife, after an outright ban on this practice in 1991.
