In Iceland will build a domed oasis on geothermal energy
In the next two years in Reykjavik will be the so-called visiting bio-dome — the zone of eternal summer, working on geothermal energy, in which will always be +25°C.
The BioDome project Reykjavík, involving the construction of several visiting bio-dome in the centre of the Icelandic capital, has developed a design and architecture Agency Spor i Sandinn. Inside the dome due to the geothermal energy will always maintain a subtropical climate, so there you can grow exotic fruit and vegetables.
In addition, this oasis can become a popular meeting place and leisure of urban residents and to attract tourists. According to Herdis Sigurdardottir, founder and CEO of Spor i Sandinn, the project will reveal to the world a new side of Icelandic agriculture. "The bio-dome will reunite with nature in new and fascinating ways, combining unique experience in a tropical climate to the farmer's market and agricultural laboratory," she says.
Given that the average temperature in Iceland, even in summer does not exceed +10°C, the project may indeed become quite popular. Currently, the authors of the project agree it with local authorities. It is expected that oasis will open to the public in late 2018 — early 2019.
Recently Iceland has also completed drilling on the Reykjanes Peninsula, the deepest geothermal well (its depth is 5 km). The energy capacity of the well is 30 to 50 megawatts — enough to power about 50 million homes. published
