Unmanned electric cars Nissan Leaf will go to the streets of London
Japanese automaker Nissan He said he plans to start testing its autonomous vehicles in London. The UK was chosen as its government aims to encourage the development and testing of autonomous driving technology, with the aim of building a global industry that could be valued at £900 billion ($1.1 trillion) by 2025.
Despite the fact that self-driving electric cars are being tested by dozens of different companies, their use on public roads is still limited in many countries. Nissan has previously tested self-driving cars in Tokyo, and the company has permission to test cars on public roads in California, but the company has not yet conducted such tests in Europe.
London will be the first European city where Nissan will officially test the behavior of a self-driving car on public roads. The pilot project, which starts next month, will involve Leaf electric vehicles equipped with additional sensors and an autonomous control system.
Nissan has also demonstrated a self-driving car assistance system that employs remote consultants.
The technology, called Seamless Autonomous Mobility, works on the same principle as the control system that NASA uses to move rovers: if a driverless car recognizes a non-standard situation that it cannot solve on its own, the machine stops and transmits a signal to the control center.
The free transport manager evaluates the data from the cameras and sensors of the car to find out the reason for the stop, then draws a new section of the route on the diagram, along which the unmanned vehicle independently bypasses the obstacle and continues along the route without interference from passengers. published
