Nissan's engineers have created a long-range Leaf

The engineers at Nissan built a prototype Leaf electric vehicle with a battery pack which capacity is two times more than commercial vehicle. The car was created the initiative group of the technical center of the brand in Barcelona in their spare time.

A prototype "long-range" Leaf hatchback was called "Cocoon", which means "cocoon" — the title of the same name by American sci-Fi movie. The car is equipped with a battery capacity of 48 kWh, whereas the serial version has a 24-kilowatt battery pack.

Because of this, the new model is 75 per cent increase in the reserve compared to the normal Leaf, which can pass without recharging up to 200 kilometers.

The car was built to participate in the competition ECOseries in Spain. This is a new type of racing where the decisive factor is not the speed, and "efficiency and fuel economy."

Hatchback Nissan Leaf first appeared in 2010. In the near future in the series will be an updated version of the model with battery capacity of 30 kWh and a range of 250 kilometers. Next generation electric car can drive without recharging the batteries for about 400 kilometers. published
