Karelian Stonehenge

Still inquisitive researcher can find in the remote corners of the taiga of Karelia, monuments that do not fit into a system of logical representations of modern man. One of such monuments is the complex on the mountain Vottovaara is the highest peak. Mountain Vottovaara is the highest peak (the highest point of the Western Karelia – height 417 m) in Karelia superstitious people consider the place the focus of evil forces and the bridge to another world: here there are ugly trees, almost no fauna, lakes dead.


One name it in the people which is: Death mountain. In recent years, Death mountain has become a place of pilgrimage for followers of different mystical trends, claiming that it is the concentration of evil forces and the bridge to the other world. The top is a rocky plateau, in some places covered with trees of bizarre shapes and heights.


For example, old, one hundred and two hundred year old pines are not higher than two meters. On top Vottovaara an area of approximately six square miles is about 1,600 stones ("Karelian Stonehenge"), laid in some mysterious order. A number of large multi-ton stones placed on "legs": on several smaller stones. Some researchers suggest that it is an ancient cult complex. However, the official science is dominated by a version of natural origin "Stonehenge". Geologists believe that the fractures and faults that formed as a result of a strong earthquake about 9 thousand years ago. Smooth same plane of the stones is the result of properties of the local rocks — quartzite, the structure of which sets such a smooth plane at the split.


“Architecture” Sade diverse. In the North they can be divided according to the form they-balls, seids-tables, Seid –Cuba.There is a version that the age of the complex is about 2000 years, and the idea of its construction belongs to the Northern tribes of the Hyperboreans — the inhabitants of ancient Northern country of Hyperborea.
