Hundertwasser House

Hundertwasser house (German. Vienna) – one of the most expensive examples of municipal housing in the Austrian capital, but when in 1986 construction work was completed, people wishing to settle in the eco-chamber did not hang up. Colorful structure at the same time like a Palace out of a fairy tale and full of life coral reef.

Building a house by order of the city authorities, the architect and painter Friedensreich friedensreich Hundertwasser (Hundertwasser) did not take any money for his creation, saying that this house is his soul — and he's just happy that this place isn't built something ugly.

Under the ugly was meant dullness and monotony: the Creator of the original buildings in the "natural", "eco-friendly", "biomorphic" style actively opposed identical houses-boxes, as has become common with the advent of the modern era.

This art and life concept the famous Austrian embodied in a number of projects, including one of the most famous is named in his honor multi-storey building. Its facade is painted in all colors of the rainbow, and sometimes it is covered with mosaics and ornaments of colored glazed tiles.

The idea of the architect each tenant the right to bring something new in this creation: it is enough just to stretch out the window arm with the brush or paint spray (it is strange that while no one has not guessed to put on the wall graffiti). The building was used eight types of Windows, and all the lines and forms are deliberately asymmetrical.

Have Hundertwasserhaus, also called "Waldspirale" in German means "forest spiral". This name is consistent with the architecture of construction: spiral rise, green roofs covered with earth and looks like a meadow with trees, shrubs and grasses. In the courtyard is a pond with frogs, giving the impression of a real forest idyll.

Concerned about environmental issues, the architect believed that plants too have a right to live in the house – it is at least some compensation for the damage to the nature of modern industrial society. So he created a special room-niches to plant the vineyards, shrubs and even trees (fit a total of about 250).

Hundertwasser house built together with the architect Josef Cravino of wood and stone, fully natural materials. Here is the 52 apartments (about two hundred tenants) and 4 offices, two children's playrooms, 3 public and 16 private terraces, cafes, winter garden and Parking for 37 cars.

However, despite the fact that the game of colors and the abundance of greenery is just fascinating, the nerves of some residents for a long time do not stand up and they move out – mainly due to the growing flow of tourists that roam around the building with cameras and curious look in the window. That, however, is not so bad: a chance to settle, there is still some wealthy lucky.

Don't be friedensreich Hundertwasser by a European architect, he would prefer to live more modestly in a cosy and safe shelter with lots of Windows, covered with grass. In New Zealand the architect has built just such a house: the roof on the sides goes into a hill, which sometimes come to nibble the grass sheep.

In addition, an eco-activist for his life he managed to lead several projects at the art of rehabilitation of ex-of manufactures: sad box Hundertwasser turned into art objects. For example, in 1988, according to his design was the façade and chimney of the combined heat and power, District in Vienna, where the burned waste is sorted.

A personal example of the architect reminds us that nature, ecological approach, modern technology and art can be harmoniously combined, making human existence more comfortable.
