Neck-Origami in the style of book-rascal

Those born in the late 70s - mid-80s probably remember those fairy tales that were released in the format of folding books. You open the page, and at the turn suddenly grows a forest or a hut, as from the ground appears a gray wolf, a fox with a colob, or a king with a queen. Some of them could move their heads and legs, rotate their eyes, wag their tails, just pull the cardboard “tongue” on a paper character-inlay. These books inspired a young Israeli designer, Chen Bikovski, by giving him the idea of an original origami nightlife series called Pop Up lighting.

The Pop Up lighting nightlife series consists of three characters, a deer, a rooster and an owl that look like they are made of paper and stacked in the form of origami figurines. Initially, these figures are not at all like the claimed birds and animals, but folding books also keep their secret until you turn the page. Pulling the “tongue” built into every Pop Up lighting art fixture, we will not only turn on the light, but also return the deer’s ears and horns, the owl – eyes and wings, and the rooster – a luxurious tail of light rays.

The goal of this project, the designer called his desire to return to himself and other people a piece of childhood, as well as the excitement, surprise and naivety that brought the folding books into everyday life. In life, each of us will always have a place for a fairy tale, because they help not to grow old in the soul, keep warmth, light, faith and hope in all good, good and eternal.
