On the river Tees every year is the amazing "show"
Amazing natural "show" can be observed in the Tisza river basin: it only lasts a couple of hours, because the lifespan of a mayfly, which is also called the "flies of the Tisza" (because of the twenty million population in the river basin), is one day.
Mating season "flies Tisza" lasts from late spring to early summer, these days the river is full of millions of insects, flies up into the air to find before the death of the "soul mate" is a colorful natural phenomenon has become attraction: a lot of people specifically come to see the bright mating insects.
Larvae of long-tailed mayflies (lat. Palingenia longicauda) spend three years in the tunnels, which are dug into the ooze, and extending deep into the river bottom, and then hatch. The density of such holes can reach 400 larvae per square meter.
The presence of Palingenia longicauda is a significant indicator of the purity of the pond, so they already are rare: except for Serbia, where also flows the Tisza mayfly can be seen in Romania on the river Prut in the lower Danube basin.
