How does the sound produced by a car tyre?

It would seem that for them is not difficult to simulate and the sound of tires while driving the car — but it's not. In fact, to recreate the picture of sound propagation from a moving car tires, company Yokohama had to join forces with the Japanese equivalent of NASA.

In cooperation with the Japanese space Agency, researchers from Yokohama have created a detailed model of the wheel and launched the emulation of the sounds produced by the tire. The resulting pattern revealed that the source of the noise is not only shaking the environment around the spinning wheel, but a constant pressure of air in the front tire, where it meets with the road.

Why do you have to disturb the aerospace scientists to figure out how much noise the tyre produces? In fact, the created model will help to develop the Yokohama tyres which will make the trip in the car more comfortable. It will also give the opportunity to improve the aerodynamics of the wheels, which will allow electric vehicles to drive longer on one filling.
