Developed a solar panel that can emit light

As a rule, the material used to convert sunlight into energy does not itself know how to emit light. However, scientists have discovered a substance that can do this. This means that in the future there will be displays for smartphones and tablets that will not only show the image, but also generate energy from sunlight.
Developed by scientists at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, the new solar cell is made of a perovskite material that not only glows when electricity passes through it, but can also produce different colors.

The discovery was made almost by accident when physicist Sum Tzu Chin asked one of his assistants to shine a laser on a perovskite sample. Since most solar cell materials are good at absorbing light, the researchers were very surprised when perovskite brightly lit up.

The researchers believe that their discovery is important for the creation of inexpensive and highly efficient solar cells in the future. A potential application for the new panels could be ads that store energy during the day and glow brightly at night, or any flat-screen mobile device.
