Energy efficient townhouses as a way out in times of crisis

Hefferlin + Kronenberg Architects has built a residential complex of 18 townhouses in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The project was commissioned by the local administration and is aimed at people with low incomes. Three-room (102 sq.m.) and four-room (128 sq.m.) townhouses are combined into two-storey clusters of four units in each (except for the cluster with improved living conditions for people with disabilities).

The roof of each building is made with an ideal slope for solar panels (a total of 189 units are installed), which provide 10% of the energy consumption of the complex.

Thanks to this, as well as a number of other “green” technologies, including energy-efficient glazing, “solar” design, high-quality insulation, the project received the LEED Platinum certificate, confirming its high level of energy saving and environmental friendliness in general.
